In Silico Synthetic Experimental Evolution

Recent advances in translating gene regulatory networks into computational models by our collaborators Isabelle Peter and Eric Davidson have opened new possibilities for computational analysis of phenotypic evolution. We are currently implementing a systems for in silico synthetic experimental evolution with the goals to explore:

1. The future evolutionary potential of specific gene regulatory networks by introducing gain of function changes into the network
2. Specific evolutionary trajectories between different network states
3. Transitions between network states and their relationship to phenotypic innovation
